Agrochemical is one of the important things in agricultural sector. These chemicals are need for high yield which helps the farmers to increase their profit and it’s also helps to increase national income.

An agrochemical, a contraction of agricultural chemical, is a chemical product used in agriculture. Crop protection (CP) products are commonly known as pesticides or agrochemicals to control harmful pests. Sanitizers, plant growth regulators (PGRs), rodents etc. are also considered as pesticides.

There are different classes of pesticides such as insecticides for pest control, herbicides for weed control, and fungicides for protecting plants from various diseases. In addition to severe pest control, some CP products have crop enhancement (CE) properties that increase crop strength and improve flower and fruit setting ability, resulting in higher yields.

These chemicals help the grains or fruits to be more shiny and bold and ultimately help the farmers to get good market price for their produce.
Consumption of pesticides globally is about two million tonnes per year, according to a report. In Bangladesh it is about 1.86 kg. According to the Bangladesh Crop Protection Association (BCPA), the total use of pesticides in 2016 was about 35,000 tons, of which 14,000 tons were active ingredients.

The CP industry is playing an important role in the agricultural sector of the country in increasing food production and thus contributing to the overall economy. The current market value of the industry is about $ 250 million.
Currently, there are about 350 companies operating in the sector, employing about 25,000 people. About 50,000 dealers across the country are involved in selling pesticides.
This is a highly technical sector which requires proper knowledge. To ensure equitable use of pesticides, there is no substitute for imparting knowledge across the price chain from dealer to farmer.
