Bangladesh is the number one denim products supplier to the European Union, which imported over 65% of the clothing products of Bangladesh. At present, more than 400 textile and garment manufacturers in Bangladesh are exporting a total of 180 million pieces of denim jeans to the world market every year.

Bangladesh is now the largest denim supplier in the EU market with 23% share and the third largest denim exporter in the United States with 11.3% share after Mexico and China. Bangladesh holds a 29% market share of total EU denim markets as of 2020. However, since 2015, the total investment in the denim sector in Bangladesh has exceeded 900 million US dollars. Many major international brands such as H&M, Uniqlo, Levi’s, Nike, Tesco, Wrangler, Hugo Boss, Puma, Primark, and JC Penney are now producing or importing. Denim products from Bangladesh.

According to the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), Bangladesh exports more than US 22 billion worth of denim products to the world market every year. Bangladesh earned $507.92 million – a 9.55% growth – exporting denim products to the US markets in 2017, which was $463.61 million in 2016, according to data from the Office of Textiles and Apparel in the US.Due to the growing demand for denim fabrics both domestically and internationally, Bangladesh aims to further strengthen its leading position in the global denim market and expects to increase its market share from the current 7% to 10.8% by 2021.

The Government of Bangladesh suggests that now is the time to invest in Bangladesh’s denim industry as the country is increasingly becoming a lucrative source of denim products for the world market, claiming that by 2021 Bangladesh’s denim exports will reach USD 7 billion.
