Gift

A gift or present is an item given to someone without expecting anything in return or payment. An item is not a gift if the item is already owned by the person to whom it was given. Although mutual expectations may be involved with gift giving, a gift is meant to be free.

Gift-giving occasions may be: love or friendship, gratitude, piety, in the form of charity, solidarity, in the form of mutual aid, A birthday, A wedding, A wedding anniversary, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Congratulations Gifts, Engagement Gifts, Valentine’s Day , Retirement Gifts etc.

Gifts can be of any kind from small to large.  Gifts are common in Bangladesh – chocolates, flowers, books, clothes, plastic toys, jute items, ceramics, bed sheets, cars, mobiles, gold items, expensive pens, various show-pieces, etc.

Every year different types of gift items are imported from different countries like China, India, UK, USA, Korea, Japan etc.  According to estimates and forecasts, the global personalized gift market will grow significantly in the coming years: In 2019, the global personalized gift market value was about .5 23.5 billion. By 2026, the market size is projected to grow to an estimated .3 34.3 billion. In Bangladesh, the market size of gift item is 10 million probably.

Also, different types of gifts are being made in Bangladesh at present.  For example, at present the demand for gift items made of jute products is increasing.  Shataranji is now considered as one of the gifts.  These Shataranji are also being exported abroad after meet the demand of the country, which is playing a role in earning foreign exchange.

In addition to jute products, handicraft products also play a significant role in gift items.  Billions of rupees worth of handicraft products are being made in Bangladesh every year.  A large part of which is now being exported abroad.  Handicraft is one of the major sources of foreign exchange in Bangladesh.
